What is Twilio

Twilio is a marketing technology platform that enables developers to build voice, video, and messaging applications. It supports customer engagement through scalable communication channels like SMS, voice, and email. Specifically, ActionIQ’s integration with Twilio is primarily intended for marketers using the SMS Text channel to communicate with their customers.

ActionIQ supports integrations with two different Twilio products: Twilio Studio and Twilio Messaging. ActionIQ clients can select which Twilio product best aligns with their marketing strategy.

1. Twilio Studio

What It Is

Twilio Studio is a visual workflow builder that allows non-technical users to build communications applications with little or no coding. It enables the design of complex, multi-step customer interactions through a drag-and-drop interface, making it easy to automate messaging, voice, and other communication processes within a flowchart-style environment.

Key Use Case

Multi-Step Personalized Messaging: Twilio Studio enables businesses to create automated, multi-step messaging workflows that personalize each interaction based on customer behavior or preferences. For example, after a customer makes a purchase, Twilio Studio can trigger a series of tailored follow-up messages, including order confirmations, thank-you notes, and personalized product recommendations.

How It Works

The integration between ActionIQ and Twilio Studio allows you to use ActionIQ’s powerful Audience-creation tools to build an Audience of customers, which can then be exported to Twilio Studio. The customers in the segment enter a specified flow within Twilio Studio, typically for the purpose of triggering an SMS Text message.

Twilio Studio enforces lower API rate limits, but supports content management within the Twilio platform.

2. Twilio Messaging

What Is Twilio Messaging

Twilio Messaging is a service provided by Twilio that delivers personalized, real-time messages to customers across various messaging channels, supporting high-volume SMS campaigns and transactional messaging.

Twilio Messaging Key Use Case

Personalized SMS Messaging: Twilio Messaging enables businesses to send personalized SMS messages at scale. For example, businesses can quickly send tailored promotions or reminders to specific customer segments, ensuring each message is relevant to the recipient’s interests or recent actions.

How It Works

The integration between ActionIQ and Twilio Messaging enables marketers to use ActionIQ’s powerful segment-creation tools to build an Audience of customers, which can then be exported to Twilio Messaging to trigger the deployment of an SMS Text campaign.

Twilio Messaging offers higher API rate limits compared to Twilio Studio, but the client needs to handle content management via an ActionIQ Attribute.
